Climate and Topography
The Beaver Creek Ranch lies along the wide bottoms of Beaver Creek and in the
open grassy hills north of the Bears Paw Mountains. The ranch is surrounded
by agricultural uses under Montana's "big sky". The creek bottom elevations
are about 2700', while the upper reaches of the state lease rise to about 3000'.
The climate is considered to be favorable for livestock operations and wheat
and alfalfa farming. Winters are cold but punctuated by the warm Chinook
winds for which this area is famous, resulting in partial open ground. Average
annual precipitation is 15" - 19", and the growing season is approximately 120-105
days.
